Job summary

InPost UK, based at the Willenhall hub in the West Midlands, is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to maintain conveyors and sortation systems. You will diagnose faults, repair and replace components, and drive reliability improvements in a fast-growing logistics operation.

The role demands mechanical and electrical expertise, PLC knowledge (Modicon/Siemens), and compliance with safety standards, with a 42-hour week and rotating day/night shifts. A Level 3 engineering qualification is required.

Qualifications

• Level 3 engineering qualification (HNC / City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Proven experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
• Knowledge of PLC systems (Modicon and Siemens).
• Familiarity with BS:7671 17th Edition wiring regs.
• Industrial/commercial electrical installations experience.
• Able to work safely at heights up to 20 metres.
• IOSH safety knowledge.
• Experience with drilling, grinding, and gasless MIG welding.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on conveyors and sortation systems.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, diagnose faults and carry out timely repairs.
• Replace or repair faulty components and keep equipment running smoothly.
• Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures.
• Identify improvements to boost reliability and performance.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
• Support and mentor junior technicians and apprentices as needed.

Maintenance Engineer

Salary

£40,677 - £45,066 (Depending on Experience)

Hours

42 hours per week

Shift Pattern

4 on, 4 off – rotating Days (06:00 – 18:00) and Nights (18:00 – 06:00)

Key Responsibilities

• Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on conveyor belts and sortation systems
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and carrying out timely repairs
• Replace or repair faulty components, reset systems, and keep all equipment running efficiently
• Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures
• Identify and recommend improvements to boost equipment reliability and performance
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times
• Support and mentor junior technicians and apprentices as needed

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring a strong engineering background, with at least a Level 3 qualification (HNC / City & Guilds or equivalent) in an engineering discipline. You’ll also have:

• Proven experience in both mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis
• Knowledge of PLC control systems – ideally Modicon and Siemens
• Familiarity with BS:7671 (2382) 17th Edition wiring regulations
• Experience in industrial/commercial electrical installations
• Ability to work safely at heights up to 20 metres
• Working knowledge of safe practices (IOSH)
• Proficiency in the use of drilling and grinding tools
• Basic welding experience using gasless MIG
