Job summary

SJEngineering in Wednesbury, West Midlands, seeks a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer for a fast-paced food manufacturing site. You will perform planned preventive maintenance and reactive repairs across automated production and packaging equipment to maximise uptime.

This is a permanent, full-time role with Monday to Friday shifts, rotating mornings and afternoons. You will fault-find on electrical and mechanical systems, including PLCs, AC/DC drives, motors, hydraulics and pneumatics.

Qualifications

• Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 in an engineering discipline.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capabilities.
• Experience with PLC fault finding, AC/DC drives, motors, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Experience maintaining automated production or packaging machinery.
• Ideally apprentice-trained with experience in food manufacturing / FMCG.
• 18th Edition qualification desirable.
• Proactive maintenance approach with strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs across production machinery.
• Fault-find and repair electrical and mechanical equipment including automated filling, seaming, packaging and blow moulding machines.
• Diagnose faults on PLC-controlled equipment, motors, drives, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Support machinery installations, commissioning and continuous improvement projects.
• Identify recurring faults and implement improvements to reduce downtime.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site CMMS.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with health, safety and food hygiene standards.

The Opportunity

SJEngineering is recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established and growing food manufacturing business based in Wednesbury.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment, working across a range of automated production and packaging equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring machinery operates efficiently, minimising downtime and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs across production machinery.
• Fault-find and repair electrical and mechanical equipment, including automated filling, seaming, packaging and blow moulding machinery.
• Diagnose faults on PLC-controlled equipment, motors, drives, hydraulics and pneumatic systems.
• Support machinery installations, commissioning and continuous improvement projects.
• Identify recurring equipment faults and implement improvements to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site's CMMS system.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health & safety and food manufacturing hygiene standards.

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing or production environment.
• Qualified to NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capabilities.
• Experience with PLC fault finding, AC/DC drives, motors, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Previous experience maintaining automated production or packaging machinery.
• Ideally apprentice-trained with experience in food manufacturing, FMCG or another fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• 18th Edition qualification desirable.
• A proactive approach to maintenance with strong problem-solving skills.

Salary & Benefits

• £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
