Job summary

New Appointments Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join a busy, 24/7 manufacturing operation. The role covers planned preventative maintenance and rapid response to breakdowns across industrial machinery.

You will perform PPM, fault diagnosis, and repairs up to 440V, with a 4 on 4 off 12-hour shift pattern. The position offers on-site facilities, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and ongoing opportunities within a supportive engineering team.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer in a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience with 440V installations, control and safety circuits.
• Strong fault-finding and preventative maintenance skills.
• Good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PPM across production machinery to maximise uptime.
• Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and repair to minimise downtime.
• Fault-find and repair equipment operating up to 440V, including control circuits and motor control systems.
• Diagnose faults across AC/DC motors, variable speed drives, sensors, actuators, switches, relays and other components.
• Investigate recurring failures, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and manuals to support fault diagnosis and repairs.
• Carry out inspections and routine checks to identify potential failures.
• Support machinery modifications, installations and CI projects.
• Ensure maintenance activities are performed safely and in line with procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and coordinate with production teams.

The role

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to breakdowns across a range of industrial machinery and production equipment.

Key responsibilities would be to

• Carry out PPM across production machinery and plant equipment to maximise reliability and operational uptime.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing repairs to minimise downtime.
• Fault-find and repair equipment operating at voltages up to 440V, including control circuits, safety circuits and motor control systems.
• Diagnose faults across AC/DC motors, variable speed drives, sensors, actuators, switches, relays and other electrical components.
• Investigate recurring failures, identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat breakdowns.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings and equipment manuals to support fault diagnosis and repairs.
• Carry out inspections and routine checks to identify potential failures before they arise.
• Support machinery modifications, installations and continuous improvement projects.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed in accordance with health and safety procedures, including safe isolation and lock-off requirements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, documenting faults, repairs, PPM activities and outstanding issues.
• Work with production teams and the wider engineering team to prioritise maintenance activities.

Please note: You will be required to cover an additional 25 shifts per year to provide cover for your counterpart. These shifts will be paid at x1.25.

Experience and skills required

• A minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer within a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong maintenance and fault-finding skills, supported by an understanding of engineering principles.
• Experience working with industrial machinery, production equipment, motors and drive systems.
• Experience working with installations up to 440V, including control and safety circuits.
• A proactive approach to preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and problem-solving.
• The ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritise repairs and respond to breakdowns.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work alongside other departments.
• A commitment to safe working practices, equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
