Job description
Overview

An established and highly regarded manufacturer of rubber extrusions, gaskets, and moulded components is looking to add a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to their team based in Birmingham.

This is a hands-on role focused on keeping extrusion and moulding equipment running efficiently through a combination of proactive planned maintenance and reactive fault-finding. The role has a strong mechanical focus, with approximately 70% mechanical and 30% electrical responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and faults across a variety of plant and extrusion equipment
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance on hydraulic presses, extruders, pneumatic systems, rotating equipment, etc.
  • Conduct electrical diagnostics and repairs (e.g. motors, drives, sensors, control panels, PLCs)
  • Implement and enhance a structured Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme
  • Lead or assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvement projects
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Keep accurate records: maintenance logs, risk assessments, fault reports, and service history
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in both mechanical and electrical maintenance, with a mechanical bias
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload efficiently
  • A logical and systematic approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in rubber, polymer, or extrusion-based manufacturing is desirable but not essential
  • Comfortable leading or supporting technical projects and installations
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential)
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (essential for electrical compliance)
  • HNC or BTEC in a relevant engineering discipline (preferred)
  • Demonstrable experience maintaining production equipment in a manufacturing environment
