Job summary

Travail Employment Group is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer for a food manufacturing site in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The role involves maintaining and improving plant equipment, diagnosing faults, and delivering planned maintenance within a fast-paced production environment.

The successful candidate will have multi-skilled maintenance experience, strong electrical/mechanical fault-finding skills, and the ability to read drawings and schematics.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent apprenticeship in maintenance.
• Multi-skilled maintenance experience in manufacturing.
• Strong fault-finding in electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience with motors, sensors, inverters, conveyors, pneumatics.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
• Strong health and safety understanding.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned preventive maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records using CMMS.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety and engineering standards.
• Work collaboratively with Production, Quality and Operations teams.

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Wellingborough, Northamptonshire £42,000-£47,000 (DOE)

Full-Time Permanent

Rotating Shifts (06:00-14:00 / 14:00-22:00 / 08:00-16:00, Mon-Fri)

We are supporting an established food manufacturing business Wellingborough who are seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their established Engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a fast-paced production environment where reliability, efficiency and continuous improvement are at the heart of operations.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will carry out maintenance, troubleshooting and improvement activities across a variety of machinery used in food production. You will respond to breakdowns, deliver planned maintenance, support new equipment installations, and contribute to ongoing reliability and performance improvements. This role will be ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys problem-solving, fault-finding and working hands-on with manufacturing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day will consist of the following

Skills & Experience Required

To be considered for the role, applicants are required to have the following skills, experience and qualifications and be resident in the UK with Right to Work Documentation in place. Please note this role does not offer sponsorship.

Essential Experience

• Apprentice trained (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent)
• Multi-skilled maintenance experience within manufacturing
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
• Experience with motors, sensors, inverters, conveyors, pneumatics
• Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
• Strong understanding of health & safety
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Desirable Experience

• Experience in food, FMCG, packaging or process manufacturing
• PLC fault-finding experience
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies
• 18th Edition qualification
• Experience using CMMS software
