Job summary

Gap Technical is seeking a Maintenance Engineer on a contract basis for a Gloucester facility. The role operates a 4on4off night shift, offering £40 per hour outside IR35.

You will respond to breakdowns, perform preventative maintenance, and work with production teams to minimise downtime. The ideal candidate will have an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent, with FMCG/packaging experience and strong fault-finding for 3-phase electrical systems, drives, PLC I/O, pneumatics and hydraulics.

Qualifications

• Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship preferred.
• Previous experience within FMCG or Packaging manufacturing environments is advantageous.
• Strong fault-finding ability on: 3-Phase Electrical Systems Drives PLC I/O Systems Pneumatic & Hydraulic Systems; Excellent communication, organisation, and prioritisation skills.

Responsibilities

• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and carry out planned preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults efficiently.
• Work closely with production and operations teams to minimise downtime.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis to improve machine reliability and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain machinery to a high engineering standard, ensuring maximum operational efficiency.
