Job summary

Todd Hayes Ltd is recruiting a Maintenance Engineer for a food manufacturing site in Brandon, Suffolk. You will join the Engineering team to maintain and fault-find across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automated production equipment, driving plant reliability and continuous improvement.

The role offers 40 hours per week on rotating shifts (early/late) with one weekend every four weeks, plus 31 days leave including bank holidays. Relevant health and safety practices are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with PLC systems and automation.
• Strong fault-finding across mechanical, electrical and control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/diagrams.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and implement effective solutions.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and carry out fault finding and repairs.
• Monitor and optimise production processes to maximise efficiency.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
• Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Carry out other ad hoc engineering and maintenance duties as required.

Job description

Maintenance Engineer

Our client, a diverse farming and fresh produce business are seeking a self-motivated and experienced Shift Maintenance Engineer to join their Engineering team at their food manufacturing site in Brandon, Suffolk.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and fault-finding across a diverse range of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automated production equipment. Working with a variety of machinery and control systems, you will help maximise plant reliability, drive continuous improvement, and support the delivery of high-quality products.

About the Role

• 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Rotating shift pattern: Week 1 - 6:00 am-2:30 pm | Week 2 - 2:00 pm-10:30 pm
• One weekend every four weeks (Saturday or Sunday)
• 31 days annual leave, including bank holidays

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and implement effective solutions.
• Performing routine maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering).
• Experience with PLC systems and automation.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance and fault-finding for mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and manuals.
• Proactive and solution-focused approach.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• High attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts and participate in the weekend rota.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices.

Desirable Requirements

• BS7671 Latest edition of wiring regulations.
• Experience within a manufacturing or food production environment.
• Experience with automated or packaging machinery.
• Experience with PLC systems and automation.
