Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our Abernethy site. The successful candidate will assist the Engineering team with routine planned maintenance, equipment breakdowns, and servicing.

At Branston, potatoes are our core business, supplying both fresh and prepared products to one of the biggest retailers in the UK.

The role is based at our Fresh factory, which has recently seen significant developments, including new automation and machinery as part of our continuous improvement initiatives.

The food manufacturing environment is fast-paced and subject to change, requiring adaptability and responsiveness to varied workloads. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting the engineering team with routine maintenance checks on all site machinery and equipment.
  2. Supporting with equipment breakdowns and servicing to minimize operational impact.
  3. Adhering to health and safety principles at all times and reporting concerns to the Engineering Manager.
  4. Assisting with the installation and development of new projects and equipment.
  5. Organizing stores to ensure sufficient stock of parts and submitting orders to the Engineering Manager.
  6. Recording tasks on daily shift reports.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Modern apprenticeship L6 in mechanical/electrical engineering (or equivalent).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative.
  • Flexibility and logical thinking with attention to detail.
  • Driving license and own transport are essential due to shift patterns and location.

Shift Pattern:

Rotational shifts:

  • 3 months day shift: Wednesday - Saturday, 06:00-16:30.
  • 1 month night shift:
  • Week 1 & 3: Tuesday - Thursday, 18:00-04:30.
  • Week 2 & 4: Monday - Thursday & Sunday, 18:00-04:30.

An additional 12.5% premium is payable for night shift work.
