The University of Bath is seeking a Maintenance Assistant (Mechanical) to join the Campus Infrastructure team. You will undertake planned and reactive maintenance across campus facilities, supporting plumbers and trades, focusing on mechanical building services and water systems.
You should have vocational training in mechanical, plumbing or building services, practical maintenance experience, and be able to perform first line fault diagnosis.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Assistant (Mechanical) to join the Campus Infrastructure team at the University of Bath, a UK top 10 university.
Working as part of our in-house maintenance team, you will undertake planned and reactive maintenance across the University's academic, residential and sports facilities, primarily on campus with occasional work at our city locations.
The role supports our multi-skilled Plumbers and other skilled trades and involves routine maintenance, minor repairs, inspections and first line fault investigation across plumbing and associated mechanical building services. This includes hot and cold-water systems, sanitaryware, internal drainage, heating systems, pumps, water softeners, laboratory services and prescribed water hygiene activities, within your training and demonstrated competence.
You will also assist skilled trades with more complex maintenance, repairs, replacement and small installation or alteration works, recognising the limits of your competence and escalating work where qualified trade, specialist or authorised intervention is required.

A relevant Level 1 or Level 2 City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ or equivalent vocational qualification would be an advantage, as well as water hygiene or Legionella awareness, relevant health and safety training or CSCS card, and awareness of BMS or building controls.
This is a full‑time role, working 36.5 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 08:15 to 16:45, and Friday 08:15 to 15:45, however, to suit operational requirements you may be requested to work flexibly at any time between 7am and 7pm. You will identified as a 'key worker' for periods of severe winter weather and should live no further than one hour's journey time to the University.
A valid UK driving licence is required in order to drive University vehicles.
