Job summary

One Ashford Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group in Kent, is seeking a practical, reliable Maintenance Assistant Engineer to join our team and support day-to-day maintenance.

The role covers general maintenance, basic plumbing and electrical tasks, daily plant checks, installing appliances, and assisting with fire safety and health and safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on maintenance experience is required.
• Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
• Good practical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Carrying out general property maintenance, including minor repairs, fixtures, fittings and renovations.
• Undertaking basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and decorating tasks.
• Carrying out daily plant checks and assisting with planned and statutory maintenance tasks.
• Installing appliances and assembling furniture and equipment.
• Responding to and resolving minor maintenance issues and safety hazards.
• Assisting the Engineer with fire alarm testing and the safe movement and connection of medical gas cylinders.
• Liaising with contractors and other team members.
• Working in line with health & safety, COSHH and infection control requirements.

Job description

One Ashford Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group and located in Kent, are looking for a practical, reliable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant Engineer to join our team and support the day-to-day maintenance of our hospital.

This is a varied role, ideal for someone with previous experience in general maintenance, building maintenance, DIY or building services, who enjoys being hands-on and wants to develop their skills within a professional healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:

We're looking for someone who is practical, organised and takes pride in their work, with a genuine interest in maintenance and keeping a safe, well-maintained environment.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in maintenance, DIY, building services or a similar hands-on role.
• Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
• Good practical problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work independently as well as as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a professional, helpful approach.
• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.

Experience within a healthcare or hospital environment would be beneficial but is not essential. The right attitude, practical ability and willingness to learn are equally important. The role also requires you to support the hospital's health and safety and safeguarding responsibilities.
