Job summary

HSBC is seeking a Technical Services Manager to lead a hands-on mainframe engineering team, modernising the DevEx and SDLC across UK, USA and MX. You will steer the shift to a GitHub-centred model, standardise tooling and ensure productive, auditable release patterns.

You will mentor 5–8 engineers, establish security and observability standards, and partner with Product Owners to deliver APIs and scalable tooling. HSBC offers strong pay and UK benefits.

Qualifications

• Hands-on mainframe engineering (z/OS SDLC) with delivery background in a controlled enterprise environment.
• Experience moving teams to GitHub-based engineering (branching models, PR governance, repo standards).
• Proven line management experience leading engineers (5–8) and owning outcomes.
• Experience delivering APIs for engineering consumption with reliable contracts and security.
• Ability to drive adoption and remove blockers across multiple countries/regions.

Responsibilities

• Lead features from design through build, test, release, and operational readiness with coding and code reviews.
• Establish standards for maintainability, security, reliability, and observability of the mainframe DevEx tooling estate.
• Act as senior escalation for complex build/deploy/tooling issues across UK/US/Mexico and drive root-cause fixes.
• Define and deliver a measurable DevEx roadmap, enabling faster onboarding and fewer manual steps.
• Build and maintain standard templates and practices adopted across regions.
• Shift from traditional SCM to a GitHub-centred model with automated quality gates and auditable releases.
• Engineer a secure, scalable toolchain for source, build, artefact, and deployment across regions.
• Design production-grade APIs wrapping SDLC tooling with clear contracts and versioning.
• Introduce AI-assisted engineering practices with safe working and review expectations.
