Job summary

Contek Recruitment Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a long-established, family-run precision engineering and toolmaking business in Letchworth Garden City. They seek a Multi-Skilled Machinist / CNC Miller Programmer to join a small, skilled team and take ownership of CNC milling programmes.

You will operate manual and CNC milling and turning equipment, set up mills and lathes, read complex drawings, and produce one-off and small-batch components across varied materials.

Qualifications

• Experience as a machinist in precision engineering.
• Ability to work on both manual and CNC milling machines.
• Capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual and CNC milling and turning machinery.
• Program CNC milling on 3-axis XYZ machines using engineering drawings.
• Use AlphaCAM to produce CNC programmes.
• Set and run CNC mills, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Work with 2-axis CNC lathes and Harrison lathes as needed.
• Read drawings, select tooling, and handle small-batch work.
• Check own work against tolerances and contribute to a small team.

Multi-Skilled Machinist / CNC Miller Programmer

Location: Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Dependent on experience

Contek Recruitment Solutions are representing their client, a long-established, family-run precision engineering and toolmaking business based in Letchworth Garden City, who are looking to recruit an experienced Multi-Skilled Machinist / CNC Miller Programmer to join their small and highly skilled team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist who enjoys working across both manual and CNC machinery, with the opportunity to take ownership of CNC milling programmes and work on a varied range of precision engineering projects.

The business has been established for many years and has built a strong reputation for producing high-quality, bespoke and precision components, working to tight tolerances across a wide variety of materials.

The Role:

• Operating both manual and CNC milling and turning machinery
• CNC milling on 3-axis XYZ machines
• Programming CNC milling machines from engineering drawings
• Using AlphaCAM software to produce CNC programmes
• Setting and operating CNC mills, ensuring components are produced accurately and efficiently
• Working with 2-axis CNC lathes
• Setting and operating XYZ and Harrison lathes
• Manual milling using Bridgeport machines
• Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
• Selecting appropriate tooling, workholding and machining methods
• Producing one-off and small-batch precision components
• Working with a variety of materials
• Checking your own work to ensure components meet drawing specifications and tolerances
• Supporting general workshop and machining requirements as part of a small team

The Ideal Candidate:

• Experienced machinist with a strong background in precision engineering
• Confident working on both manual and CNC machinery
• Strong CNC milling experience is essential
• Previous CNC programming experience on 3-axis mills
• Experience with AlphaCAM would be highly advantageous
• Comfortable working from engineering drawings and specifications
• Manual milling experience, ideally with Bridgeport machines
• CNC turning experience would be beneficial
• Experience with 2-axis CNC lathes is desirable
• Able to select tooling, set machines and troubleshoot machining issues
• High attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work
• Comfortable working independently while contributing to a small team environment
