Job summary

Safran is recruiting for a Machinist at our Gloucester site. You will set up and operate a range of precision machine tools, interpret engineering drawings and maintenance manuals, and ensure components meet exact specifications.

Qualifications

• Engineering apprenticeship or Level 3 NVQ desirable.
• Experience operating manual and/or specialist machine tools within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate and optimise specialist machine tools including cylindrical grinding, planetary grinding, vertical boring, horizontal boring, turning and honing equipment.
• Manufacture and repair aerospace components to precise engineering specifications
• Prepare, install and secure fixtures, tooling and components safely and accurately
• Interpret engineering drawings, maintenance manuals and technical specifications
• Monitor machining operations and adjust machine parameters, feeds and speeds
• Use a wide range of precision measuring equipment to verify component conformity
• Diagnose machine and process issues, supporting corrective actions to minimise downtime

Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a Machinist to join our MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) site in Gloucester.

Your role:

• Set up, operate and optimise specialist machine tools including cylindrical grinding, planetary grinding, vertical boring, horizontal boring, turning and honing equipment.
• Manufacture and repair aerospace components to precise engineering specifications
• Prepare, install and secure fixtures, tooling and components safely and accurately
• Interpret engineering drawings, maintenance manuals and technical specifications
• Monitor machining operations and adjust machine parameters, feeds and speeds
• Use a wide range of precision measuring equipment to verify component conformity
• Diagnose machine and process issues, supporting corrective actions to minimise downtime
• An Engineering Apprenticeship (preferably gained within the aerospace or manufacturing sector) or a Level 3 NVQ would be desirable.
• Experience operating manual and/or specialist machine tools within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Previous exposure to an MRO environment would be desirable but not essential
• Experience working to tight tolerances and detailed engineering specifications.
• Knowledge of Cylindrical grinding, planetary grinding, boring, turning and honing techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
