Job summary

Safran Landing Systems in Gloucester is hiring a CNC Machinist to set up and operate advanced CNC/NC machines and produce precision aerospace components. You will read engineering drawings, perform tool changes, and work within a quality-focused team in a modern manufacturing setting.

The role requires NVQ 3 or time-served apprenticeship background, Siemens 840D experience is desirable, and willingness to work across shifts including nights. Excellent benefits and career stability offered.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machining principles and CNC fundamentals and the ability to read drawings and layouts.
• Time-served apprenticeship in Machining, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related discipline; NVQ Level 3 preferred.
• Siemens 840D control experience is desirable; familiar with multiple CNC machines.

About the Role:

• Set up and operate CNC and NC machining equipment, including WFL 6-axis mill-turn lathes and Mecof 6-axis high-speed milling machines.
• Manufacture precision aerospace components to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Carry out machine set-ups and tool changes.
• Maintain high quality standards and support continuous improvement activities.
• Work safely and efficiently within a structured manufacturing environment.
• Contribute to delivering products used across commercial, business and military aircraft programmes worldwide.

What You'll Bring:

• Knowledge of machining principles and numerical controls fundamentals as well as the ability to read drawings and layouts - Essential
• Time-served apprenticeship in Machining, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline. (NVQ Level 3 preferred) - Essential
• Siemens 840D Control systems experience – Desirable
• Ability to Set and Run various CNC Machines to include some of the following Milling, grinding, Turning and Mill-turn machining centres.
• Manual machining techniques in any of the following, grinding, honing, Deep hole boring, Turning, milling - Desirable
• Able to set own tools
• Understanding of 5s principles
• Good communication and team working skills
• Basic computer and problem solving skills
• Flexibility to work across shifts, including weekends and nights
