Job summary

Morgan Ryder Associates is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with proven experience in machine tools, SP machinery, or bespoke automated systems. You will design and develop complete machines from concept through to build and commissioning, not just components.

You will create detailed CAD models, manage BOMs in SAP, and participate in design reviews, DFMEA/PFMEA, supporting bids and customer documentation. This is a hands-on role in a precision engineering environment worldwide.

Qualifications

• Min 5 years design experience in machine tool design, SP machinery or bespoke automated machines.
• Strong background in mechanism and machine design, including moving assemblies.
• Experience with full machine lifecycle from concept to commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design new machine systems, mechanisms, and components.
• Modify and improve existing machine designs to meet customer needs.
• Work on machine tool design, tooling, and automated systems.
• Support manufacturing and assembly during build and commissioning.
• Produce detailed CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Manage BOMs and part releases via SAP.
• Conduct design reviews, DFMEA and PFMEA.
• Support technical bids and customer-facing documentation.

The Role

You will be responsible for the design and development of mechanisms, machine systems and complete special purpose machines.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing new machine systems, mechanisms, and components

Essential

• Min 5 years design experience in:
  • Machine tool design
  • Special purpose machinery (SPM)
  • Bespoke automated machines / production systems
• Strong background in mechanism and machine design (not just static components)
• Proven experience designing moving assemblies and complex systems
• Ability to work across the full machine lifecycle

Also desirable

• HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 3D CAD experience (Siemens NX - advantageous)
• Experience with manufacturing processes and assembly support
• Familiarity with DFMEA / PFMEA / design reviews
