Job summary

Safran UK is seeking a skilled CNC machinist to manufacture machined components by setting and operating CNC lathes and 3- and 5-axis machining centres. You will ensure quality through in-process checks and comply with HSE requirements.

You will download programs, set up tooling, prove out new NPIs, monitor tolerances with inspection gauges, perform regular maintenance, and collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve cycle times.

Qualifications

• Indentured apprentice or equivalent modern apprenticeship.
• Experience setting and running 3 axis & 5 axis vertical machining centres and CNC lathes.
• NVQ Level 2/3 mechanical engineering or B-Tech diploma.

Responsibilities

• Download programs from the file server.
• Setup CNC tooling assemblies and maintain tool management system.
• Setup and run CNC machining centres.
• Prove out new NPI programs.
• Use inspection gauges to monitor tolerance requirements as defined in engineering data.
• Perform daily/weekly maintenance tasks per machine centre maintenance plan.
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities.
• Complete all necessary paperwork as required.
• OEE data entry at machine side.
• Collaborate with production manager and programming team to improve processes and reduce cycle times.
• Support team colleagues.
• Maintain 5S housekeeping as required.
• Take responsibility for quality of own output.
• Perform other tasks as reasonably requested by production manager

• Participate in continuous improvement activities
• Complete all necessary paper work as required.
• Routine machine side OEE data entry
• Work with production manager & programming team to seek opportunities to improve processes and reduce cycle times
• Support team colleagues
• Maintain good housekeeping in accordance with 5S processes and practices
• Take responsibility for quality of own output
• Perform other tasks as reasonably requested by your production manager

Essential Knowledge, Experience, Training and Qualifications

• Indentured apprentice or equivalent modern apprenticeship, experienced in setting and running 3 axis & 5 axis vertical machining centres and CNC lathes
• NVQ Level 2+3 mechanical engineering
• B-Tec national diploma mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Ability to use a wide range of IMTE to facilitate inspection of completed components
• Working knowledge of Heidenhain, Fanuc and Mazatrol programming languages (Desirable)
• Experience of manual mills and manual lathes is also (Desirable)
