Job summary

Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd in Gloucestershire is seeking a skilled Plant Operator to join our construction and quarrying teams. You will operate a range of plant and equipment, perform daily safety checks and maintain equipment, and work closely with site supervisors to keep work safe and on schedule.

Applicants must have experience in plant operation, a valid 360 ticket, and a strong commitment to health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Operating plant and equipment in line with qualifications and competency.
• Carrying out daily safety checks and reporting defects.
• Performing routine cleaning, greasing and basic maintenance of equipment.
• Working with site supervisors to keep work safe and on schedule.
• Following site health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Recording plant inspections, maintenance checks and timesheets.
• Reporting accidents, incidents and equipment faults promptly.
• Wearing and maintaining PPE at all times.

Smiths has grown from a single owner-operated plant hire company to a multifaceted group with family values still firmly at the heart of each project undertaken. With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse and Tewkesbury we operate predominately across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition and Transport operations.

Join our team as a Plant Operator and play a key role in delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. We're looking for an experienced and safety-conscious individual with experience operating plant and machinery within a construction or quarrying environment.

What you'll be doing:

• Operating a variety of plant and equipment in line with your qualifications and competency level.
• Carrying out daily safety checks and reporting any defects or maintenance requirements.
• Performing routine cleaning, greasing and basic maintenance of plant and machinery.
• Working closely with site supervisors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.
• Following all site health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Recording plant inspections, maintenance checks and timesheets accurately.
• Reporting accidents, incidents, near misses and equipment faults promptly.
• Wearing and maintaining the appropriate PPE at all times.
