Job summary

Pertemps Northampton is seeking an on-site Label Press Operator to produce blank labels and convert printed material, ensuring accurate cuts and proper rolling into cores. You will inspect for faults, box finished reels and maintain a clean, safe workspace.

Hours are 08:00 to 16:30 with a 60-minute break. The role requires reading job sheets, setting up knives, adjusting tension, and performing routine maintenance while meeting production targets and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Experience operating label presses and setting up slitting knives.
• Ability to perform quality control and fault removal.
• Read and interpret job sheets to prepare correct packaging and boxes.
• Perform basic maintenance and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Understand a job sheet.
• Pick the correct cutter and return it to its place after the job.
• Mount cutter onto magnetic cylinder and press.
• Load material onto label press, set web-guide and slitter knives.
• Set cutter pressure to correct level.
• Make adjustments to ensure smooth running and minimize wrapping issues.
• Operate label press computer to set quantity and tension.
• Produce blank labels or slit printed material as instructed.
• Watch for faults and remove them promptly.
• Box rolls of labels according to job sheet.
• Mark up job sheets for box type and quantities.
• Record production times on the job sheet.
• Note any errors on the job sheet and fix them.
• Carry out daily maintenance per schedule.
• Keep the work area tidy.
• Report faults via fault report forms to supervisor.
• Suggest efficiency improvements at team meetings.

Job description

Role Purpose:

To produce blank labels and convert printed material from master rolls and to rewind onto specified core sizes. To inspect and remove any faults from the reels of printed material. Also to box products ready for dispatch.

Individual Responsibilities:

• Understand a job sheet.
• Pick the correct cutter and return to the correct place at the end of the job.
• Mount cutter onto magnetic cylinder and mount cylinder into label press.
• Load material onto label press, set web-guide and slitter knives.
• Set cutter pressure to correct level.
• When starting to run a job, make adjustments to ensure optimum running speed with minimum chance of labels coming off with the matrix and wrap arounds.
• Operate label press computer to set number of labels and mandrel tension etc.
• Produce blank labels or slit printed material according to job sheet.
• Watch for faults while running the label press and remove faults.
• Box rolls of labels according to job sheet.
• Mark up job sheet with box type used on new jobs.
• Ensure quantities of cores and boxes are correct on job sheet and mark up / correct where necessary.
• Enter production times on job sheet.
• Mark up job sheet with any errors found on job sheet.
• Carry out daily maintenance routines as define in the maintenance schedule.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Keep working area tidy.
• Report any faults or problems with equipment used on fault report forms and pass to production supervisor.
• Look for ways to improve efficiency and discuss at team meetings

Key Relationships:

• Internal - Production Supervisor, Production Apprentices, Production Administrator.

Measurement & Benchmarking:

• To minimise quality complaints from customers
• To ensure production times are accurate.

Pay is £13 - £14 per hour depending on experience.
