Job summary

Sofina Foods is seeking an Engineering Operative to keep machinery running efficiently on a busy site in Grimsby. You’ll set up, maintain and monitor equipment, working with the Engineering Team to minimize downtime and uphold food safety and compliance standards.

The role operates on rotating shifts (06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00, Mon-Fri) in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, offering opportunities to develop technical skills and contribute to continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications

• Mechanically or electrically minded with a genuine interest in engineering.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment is desirable.
• Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced operation.
• Committed to maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Carry out machinery and equipment set-ups and changeovers
• Complete equipment checks in line with food safety, health and safety and site standards
• Support the continuous improvement of machinery performance across the site
• Monitor equipment to ensure it continues to operate efficiently
• Minimise downtime while maintaining food safety and compliance standards
• Identify, report and help prevent machinery faults and breakdowns
• Support Engineering Technicians with breakdowns and tool changes
• Complete handovers to Production, Hygiene and Technical teams where required
• Promote good equipment ownership and best practice among production teams
• Generate ideas that improve efficiency and operational performance
• Maintain regular visual inspections of equipment throughout the shift
• Support engineering projects and improvement initiatives
• Contribute to a proactive and collaborative engineering culture

Role Overview

As an Engineering Operative, you'll play a key role in ensuring machinery and equipment across the site are set up, maintained and operating efficiently. Working closely with the Engineering Team, you'll support safe and effective production by minimising downtime, improving equipment performance and maintaining high standards of food safety and compliance.

Working on a rotating shift pattern of 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00 Monday to Friday, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Key Duties

Desirable experience:

• Experience working in chilled or frozen food manufacturing environments
• Experience within coated products or white fish processing operations
• Experience supporting engineering, maintenance or production equipment activities
