targetjobs UK is hiring for a 12-week summer internship in London, joining the Technical Machine Learning team to work on cutting-edge ML problems. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers, applying both off-the-shelf and from-scratch solutions while contributing to scalable systems that accelerate discovery.

The role suits an undergraduate, master's or PhD student with strong programming skills in Python and ML frameworks, plus an interest in high-performance computing and profiling.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, masters or PhD program in machine learning or a related discipline.
• Strong OO programming skills and experience with Python, PyTorch and NumPy are desirable.
• Experience with optimisation methods, modern ML techniques, HPC, profiling or model inference is beneficial.
• Excellent ML reasoning skills with ability to develop own models when standard approaches are insufficient.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working in a team with complementary expertise.

Responsibilities

• Implement ideas from published research papers.
• Write custom libraries to efficiently train models on large data.
• Reduce model training times by hand-optimising ML operations.
• Profile custom ML architectures to identify performance bottlenecks.
• Evaluate the latest hardware and software in the ML ecosystem.
