Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland, in partnership with Kier, seeks an Engineering Surveyor (Machine Control) for a live MOD civils site in Plymouth. This permanent on‑site role focuses on supporting survey machine‑controlled plant and as‑builts.

Key duties include checking survey control networks, modelling for machine control, producing check reports and QA/QC documentation, and coordinating with site teams. BPSS clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Degree, diploma, or relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Construction
• Site based role
• Operating on a 7/3/7/4 shift pattern as per programme needs
• Experience in surveying and construction industries
• considerable years of experience in a similar surveying position on a civil engineering project
• Experience with Leica Machine Control equipment
• Experience with surveying equipment; total stations, GPS/GNSS and laser scanners
• Survey data processing software; AutoCAD Civil 3D, Leica Infinity, Leica Cyclone and Leica 3DR
• Understanding of QC1 procedures and quality documentation in a civils context
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• CSCS Card and relevant site safety qualifications
• Member of the CinstCES (or technical member working towards full member), or another body
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Responsibilities

• Check and maintain survey control networks
• Support machine control application for excavation, demolition and drilling operations
• Check design and create models for machine control
• Complete checking of machine control operations
• Provide check reports and as-builts, through laser scanning and modelling of point clouds
• Ensure survey data is collected and recorded accurately, following project QA/QC standards
• Operating survey equipment to the highest of precision within a civils environment
• Support engineers with surveying activities to ensure consistent approaches to surveying and engineering
• Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure alignment between construction programme and survey operations
• Attend daily briefings and provide updates on survey progress and issues
• Ensure all surveying works are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Support other surveying work packages as required
