Job summary

ASSYSTEM is seeking an experienced M&E Planner to develop and manage detailed mechanical and electrical programmes for construction projects in the Greater London area. You will coordinate M&E activities with the overall project programme, ensuring proper sequencing and timely information flow among stakeholders.

The role involves working with the M&E project team, main contractors, subcontractors, design teams and other stakeholders to identify risks, manage interfaces and support on-schedule

Job Description

The M&E Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining and monitoring detailed mechanical and electrical programmes for construction projects. The role will coordinate M&E activities with the overall project programme, ensuring that works are properly sequenced, resources and interfaces are identified, and progress is accurately monitored and reported.

The successful candidate will work closely with the M&E project team, main contractor, subcontractors, design teams and other project stakeholders to identify programme risks, manage interfaces and support the timely delivery of the project.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Programming

Develop detailed M&E programmes in line with the overall project master programme.

Prepare and maintain detailed short-, medium- and long-term programmes.

Develop logic-linked programmes covering design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

Ensure M&E activities are properly sequenced and coordinated with architectural, structural and other construction activities.

Establish key milestones, interfaces, dependencies and critical activities.

Incorporate subcontractor and supplier programmes into the overall M&E programme.

Maintain baseline programmes and approved programme revisions.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

Monitor actual progress against the approved programme.

Collect progress information from site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.

Produce weekly and monthly programme updates and progress reports.

Identify programme slippage, critical path impacts and emerging risks.

Prepare recovery programmes and mitigation plans where required.

Provide clear programme information to project management and senior stakeholders.

Coordination

Work closely with M&E Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Managers and Quantity Surveyors.

Coordinate M&E activities with other trades and project disciplines.

Attend project, progress and coordination meetings.

Challenge programme information where appropriate and ensure reported progress is evidence-based.

Liaise with subcontractors to ensure their programmes and progress information are aligned with project requirements.

Monitor M&E design and information release against programme requirements.

Track procurement of long-lead M&E equipment and materials.

Monitor manufacturing, delivery and installation dates.

Integrate testing, commissioning, witnessing, inspection and handover activities into the programme.

Coordinate commissioning and handover requirements with the project team.

Identify programme risks, constraints and opportunities.

Maintain programme risk and mitigation information.

Assess the programme impact of variations, design changes and delays.

Support extension-of-time and delay analysis activities by maintaining accurate programme records and contemporaneous information.

Maintain clear records of programme revisions, changes and assumptions.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

Proven experience as an M&E Planner, Mechanical & Electrical Planner, Construction Planner or similar role.

Experience working on construction, building services or engineering projects.

Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical construction activities and their sequencing.

Experience developing and maintaining detailed project programmes.

Good understanding of critical path, float, dependencies and programme logic.

Experience working with M&E subcontractors and specialist suppliers.

Strong understanding of construction project processes from design through to commissioning and handover.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Good attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.

Software

Strong knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

Experience with Power BI or other project reporting tools.

Experience with 4D planning/BIM.

Experience using project collaboration/document management platforms.
