Job summary

Hunsbury Park Primary School in Nottingham is seeking a Lunchtime Supervisor to help manage the midday break, supervise children in the playground, dining hall, and corridors, and ensure they receive their lunches safely.

You will administer basic first aid, maintain lunchtime equipment, and support pupils with eating and play, while keeping a caring, safeguarding-focused approach and reporting any issues to the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Administer basic first aid to children and refer to a first aider when needed.
• Maintain lunchtime equipment and report breakage or wear.
• Ensure gates are locked and report if not.
• Use appropriate language and dress appropriately at all times.
• Work co-operatively with lunchtime supervisor team and school staff.
• Supervise children during wet play in the classrooms and prepare the room for afternoon sessions.
• Prepare tables, trolleys and equipment for the start of lunchtime.

Job description

CORE PURPOSE OF POST

To assist the school in maintaining care and control over children during the midday lunch break and to ensure they receive their lunches appropriately.

General duties:-

• Careful supervision in the playground, dining hall, toilets, corridors and classrooms to ensure the safety of all children.
• Administer basic first aid to children and where appropriate refer children to a first aider.
• Maintain lunchtime equipment in a suitable condition and report breakage, loss or wear.
• Ensure gates are locked and inform staff if not.
• Use appropriate language and dress as expected at all times.
• Ensure that children are spoken to in a caring way and that issues are dealt with sensitively.
• To be aware of health and safety issues.
• Organise and supervise games.
• Supervise children when lining up to leave and enter the building.
• Listen to children and support them with rectifying play issues.
• To liaise with the Office Manager/Business Manager regarding equipment needs.
• To encourage co-operative play through the use of well thought out and purposeful activities.
• To work co-operatively with the rest of the lunchtime supervisor team and school staff.
• Supervise children during wet play in the classrooms, clearing away and ensure the room is ready for the afternoon teaching session.
• Prepare tables, trolleys and all necessary equipment for the start of lunchtime.
• Monitor collection of lunchboxes as necessary.
• Unwrap food or prepare food where necessary.
• Wipe table spaces when vacated.
• Clear up spillages on tables and floor.
• Removing rubbish as required.
• Help children as necessary with use of cutlery, scraping of plates, stacking of plates, replacing cutlery, etc.
• Exercise supervision and control and engaging with the children whilst eating and playing.

First Aid:-

• To administer basic first aid to children when necessary and record such in accordance with established procedures.
• To maintain the first aid equipment and supplies in an efficient manner, to report breakage and advise the Senior Lunchtime Supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
• To attend such courses as are necessary to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of, and qualifications in, first aid.
