Job summary

Qualifications

  • Accepts temporary assignments when staff are unavailable.
  • Has knowledge of ACSI accreditation goals and ongoing professional development.
  • Completes 24 hours of professional education and 4 hours Bible education annually.

Job description

A lower elementary teacher assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the lead preschool teacher in creating a positive and engaging learning environment for young children. Reporting to the associate principal of elementary and under the direction of the lead teacher, the assistant helps in the daily management and supervision of the classroom and children.


Education & Curriculum


  • Assists in implementing curriculum activities and lesson plans. Follows program schedule for the classroom, outdoor time, and special activities.

  • Uses positive guidance techniques consistent with school mission statement; counsels children when social, academic or adjustment problems arise.

  • Under the direction of the lead teacher, helps to establish developmentally appropriate room arrangement, decor and learning environment in the classroom, consistent with the program’s philosophy and goals.

  • Assists in maintaining classroom bulletin boards.

  • Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled staff is not available, such as taking full responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the lead teacher.

  • Has working knowledge of ACSI accreditation goals as they pertain to daily operations and professional development.

  • Maintains a minimum of 24 hours of professional continuing education each year and 4 hours of Bible continuing education.


Health & Safety


  • Implements appropriate emergency procedures in the event of a fire, tornado, evacuation or other emergency situation.

  • Administers CPR/First aid or other appropriate emergency procedures in the event of serious student accidents or emergencies.

  • Properly maintains educational materials and equipment. Ensures that children are using equipment in an appropriate manner.

  • Keeps the classroom and other play areas safe, neat and clean.

  • Manages children outside of school in a professional and safe manner in accordance with minimum standards.


Communication


  • Provides daily written communication to parents on behalf of the teacher as needed.

  • Provides written communication for parents such as incident and illness reports in a professional manner. Interacts professionally with current and prospective families.

  • Maintains appropriate primary caregiver groups.

  • At least 18 years old.

  • High School diploma or equivalency. (Associates or Bachelor Degree Preferred

  • Shows evidence of Christian maturity and a strong grasp of the essence of Christian education.

  • Meets the accredited and state of Texas requirements and qualifications for teacher assistant.

  • Previous education experience is preferred.
