Job summary

Step Teachers Ltd. is recruiting a Music Teacher for a long-term temporary role from September 2026 within a secondary school. The post requires delivering engaging Music lessons across KS3/KS4, adhering to the curriculum, and promoting positive pupil development in a calm, well-led setting.

You will plan, assess progress, and support both ensembles and core music activities while upholding safeguarding and high expectations. A strong professional approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher status or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching Music within a secondary school setting.
• Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Music education.
• Ability to engage and motivate pupils of varying abilities.
• Confident classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Reliable, adaptable and committed to a long-term temporary role.
• Professional approach and strong communication skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of young people.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons that inspire creativity and musical understanding.
• Teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, following the school’s curriculum and schemes of work.
• Encourage pupil participation, confidence, and enjoyment in practical and theoretical music.
• Maintain a positive and well-managed classroom environment in line with school behaviour policies.
• Assess pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support development.
• Support extracurricular music activities where required, such as ensembles or performances.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the wider arts provision.
• Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote pupil wellbeing at all times.
