Purpose of the Role:

The Logistics Manager is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day management of the last mile delivery process across UK & Europe, with a strong background in international and export logistics. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of goods across borders, managing all aspects of export operations including documentation, customs clearance, Incoterms, and coordination with freight forwarders and international carriers.

The Logistic Manager ensures optimal utilisation of labour and vehicles to meet the company’s Delivery On Time In Full (DOTIF) targets, with a strong focus on export operations and coordination of final mile logistics across multiple markets. The role ensures legal compliance, cost control, and continuous improvement within the transport function. This position also includes responsibility for the goods out and delivery fleet at Flokk Mirfield, and the Company’s Operating Licence and compliance with all statutory transport requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and optimise vehicle utilisation, routing, and final mile logistics for domestic and international shipments.
  • Control transport-related costs and identify savings without compromising compliance or quality.
  • Ensure full legal compliance, including Operator’s Licence management, vehicle roadworthiness, and Health & Safety standards.
  • Monitor transport KPIs (e.g. DOTIF) and drive continuous improvement in cost, efficiency, and service.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance, compliance, and performance, ensuring all exports and haulage meet international requirements.
  • Lead the Goods Out team to ensure timely, accurate dispatch and delivery operations.
  • Manage and develop employed and agency drivers, maintaining high service and performance standards.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Customer Service, Planning, and Commercial teams to ensure seamless order fulfilment and strategic logistics development.

About You:

  • Proven Leadership in Transport & Logistics: Extensive experience in a Transport or Logistics Management role, ideally within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • CPC Qualified: Holds a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transport Management, with hands-on responsibility for managing a fleet of vehicles.
  • Regulatory Expertise: In-depth knowledge of UK and international road freight regulations, including export compliance.
  • International Logistics Coordination: Skilled in managing final mile logistics for both imports and exports on a global scale.
  • Operational Planning & Organisation: Exceptional planning and organisational abilities, with a track record of leading efficient transport operations.
  • Team Management: Demonstrated success in managing diverse teams, including both permanent staff and agency personnel.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in using transport management systems (TMS) and vehicle tracking technologies to optimise fleet performance.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong analytical skills with a focus on key performance indicators (KPIs), cost control, and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance & Safety: Solid understanding of Health & Safety standards and legal transport compliance requirements.
  • Licence Responsibility: Willing and capable of holding responsibility for the Company’s Operator’s Licence.
  • Experience with customs processes, export documentation, and international shipping procedures.
  • Membership of FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations) or similar industry body.
  • Experience in lean logistics or continuous improvement methodologies.
