Job summary

The Atrium Health Centre in Dorchester is seeking a Locum GP to work autonomously, delivering high-quality medical services to the practice population in line with GMC standards and the primary care contract.

You will support, mentor and supervise other healthcare professionals within the team, participate in home visits and telemedicine, and contribute to continuous improvement through clinical governance and training.

Qualifications

• Autonomy as a practitioner adhering to GMC standards for good medical practice.
• Delivery of high-quality medical care in line with the primary care contract.
• Support, supervision and mentoring of other healthcare professionals within the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Work as agreed in accordance with the practice timetable.
• Deliver highly effective medical care to the entitled population.

• Clinically examine and assess patient needs and plan care, referring to other services as needed.
• Generic prescribing in line with local and national guidance.
• Prioritise health problems and intervene in complex/urgent situations.
• Manage long-term conditions effectively.
• Support patients in adopting healthy lifestyle strategies.
• Process administration (referrals, repeats, etc.) promptly.
• Review medications following NICE/local guidelines and care pathways.
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with policies and guidance.
• Attend practice meetings and contribute to continuous improvement and governance.
• Prepare and complete revalidation and ongoing professional development.

A Locum GP is required to work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the contract.

Main duties of the job

Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

The role is to support, mentor, and supervise other healthcare professionals within the organisation and be an integral part of the general practice team

Located in the heart of Thomas Hardys historic Dorchester, surrounded by stunning landscapes, peaceful villages and vibrant towns, the Atrium Health Centre is a two partner, 7000 patient GP surgery.

We are a friendly bunch who recognise the importance of getting the work/life balance right.

Our close-knit clinical team embraces working together to get problems sorted. We employ a paramedic for our home visits and a pharmacy tech to help with our discharge summaries and other medicines management. We also benefit from the services of a number of ARRS staff via our PCN including a Frailty team, visiting paramedics, Clinical Pharmacists and a DigitalAdmin team. Our doctors have embraced telemedicine, video calls and eConsults. We currently use an eConsult first system to triage appointments which means our patients are getting face-to-face or telephone appointments much quicker than our old telephone first system.

Our branch surgery Crossways is a dispensing practice nestled in a growing village, a 10-minute drive south east of Dorchester. Its staffed by an experienced team and offers the rewarding continuity of care a smaller surgery can bring.

Job responsibilities

• Work as agreed in accordance with the practice timetable
• The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
• The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
• Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly, referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising practice and any other local guidelines
• Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
• Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
• Effective management of long-term conditions
• Support patients to adopt strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
• Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
• Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
• Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
• On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
• Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
• Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
• On an opportune basis, provide health promotion advice
• Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
• Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
• Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice, including clinical governance and training
• Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
• Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
• Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice
• Commit to self-learning and instill an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
• Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies
• Support the Partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice
• Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement
• Conduct home visits as agreed
• Be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team
• There may be,, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels
• Conduct out-of-hours duties as mutually agreed
