Job summary

DrPA Secure invites a dedicated General Practitioner (GP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team within a secure prison environment, delivering high-quality primary care to a diverse patient population.

In this locum role you will manage consultations, chronic diseases, mental health, and safeguarding, collaborating with nurses, pharmacists and external providers while ensuring compliant records and governance.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified GP with current GMC registration and licence to practise.
  • Performers list registration
  • Experience in primary care with sound clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and healthcare delivery in secure environments.
  • Additional qualifications in substance misuse, mental health, or sexual health.
  • Knowledge of NHS and prison healthcare policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full GP services including consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and referrals.
  • Manage chronic diseases, acute presentations, and mental health conditions.
  • Contribute to the management of substance misuse and support detox pathways.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external healthcare providers.
  • Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical records using the prisons electronic health record system.
  • Take part in clinical governance activities and support continuous quality improvement

We work with the Home Office, NHS trusts, and private providers within the estate to maintain high levels of healthcare and develop systems and services tailored to their individual needs. About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experiencedGeneral Practitioner (GP)to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team within a secure prison environment. The role involves delivering high-quality primary care services to a diverse patient population

As a GP in a prison setting, you will play a vital role in improving health outcomes for individuals who may have complex health and social care needs. Your work will help reduce health inequalities and ensure continuity of care in a challenging but rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant NHS and prison healthcare policies and procedures.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check & CTC Clearance

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

This post will require the holder to undertake and successfully complete the Counter Terrorism Clearance (CTC) process.

Please note, in order to apply, all applicants need to have been living in the United Kingdom (with residency in the UK, such as UK/Irish/EU Passport, or an Indefinite Leave to Remain Visa) for the last 5 years with no more than a 28 day break being outside of the UK and no gaps in employment during this time.
