Job summary

DrPA Secure is seeking a dedicated General Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team in a secure prison environment, delivering high-quality primary care to a diverse patient population.

You will provide full GP services, manage chronic and acute conditions, and work with nursing, mental health professionals, pharmacists and external providers to ensure continuity of care and robust safeguarding practices.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Experience delivering primary care to diverse, possibly vulnerable populations.
• Strong safeguarding awareness and ability to work in secure environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide full GP services including consultations, diagnoses, treatments, and referrals.
• Manage chronic and acute conditions, and mental health needs.
• Contribute to detox pathways and substance misuse management.
• Collaborate with nursing, mental health, pharmacy, and external providers.
• Participate in audits, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
• Maintain comprehensive clinical records using prison EHR systems.
• Engage in clinical governance and quality improvement activities.

DrPA has been operating in secure environments since 2014 providing General Practitioner services.We work with the Home Office, NHS trusts, and private providers within the estate to maintain high levels of healthcare and develop systems and services tailored to their individual needs. About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experiencedGeneral Practitioner (GP)to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team within a secure prison environment. The role involves delivering high-quality primary care services to a diverse patient population

As a GP in a prison setting, you will play a vital role in improving health outcomes for individuals who may have complex health and social care needs. Your work will help reduce health inequalities and ensure continuity of care in a challenging but rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide full GP services including consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and referrals.
• Manage chronic diseases, acute presentations, and mental health conditions.
• Contribute to the management of substance misuse and support detox pathways.
• Work collaboratively with nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external healthcare providers.
• Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
• Maintain comprehensive clinical records using the prisons electronic health record system.
• Take part in clinical governance activities and support continuous quality improvement

Requirements

• Fully qualified GP with current GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Performers list registration
• Experience in primary care, with sound clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and healthcare delivery in secure environments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience working in prison healthcare, secure units, or with vulnerable populations.
• Additional qualifications in substance misuse, mental health, or sexual health.
• Knowledge of relevant NHS and prison healthcare policies and procedures.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

This post will require the holder to undertake and successfully complete the Counter Terrorism Clearance (CTC) process.
