Consultant Ophthalmologist (Glaucoma) Fixed-Term (6 Months, Maternity Cover) - 10 Sessions

Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals located in North East London, is seeking applications for a fixed-term Consultant position with a specialist interest in Glaucoma. This 6-month role provides maternity leave cover and is primarily based at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

The post holder will manage and develop the service, ensure excellent care delivery, and contribute to training programs. This is an exciting opportunity to join during a period of significant redevelopment at Whipps Cross Hospital.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Essential: CCT or equivalent, or within 6 months of award; GMC Specialist Register; FRCOphth or equivalent; Glaucoma fellowship or ASTO

• Desirable: Experience as a Consultant with a sub-specialty interest in Glaucoma; Higher degree; Academic prizes

Experience

• Essential: Managing glaucoma and primary care eye conditions; Cataract surgery; Glaucoma filtration and shunt surgery; MIGS; ocular trauma and emergencies; supervising trainees; managing emergency clinics; peer-reviewed publications

• Desirable: Management experience; service development; clinical trials involvement

Professional Skills

• Essential: Clinical leadership; multidisciplinary teamwork; training; clinical governance; communication; IT skills

• Desirable: Training the Trainer; ARCP assessor
