Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia (2 posts)
NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Wishaw
University Hospital Wishaw (UHW) is looking to employ 2 enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Anaesthetists to join our existing team initially as locum but with possibility of substantive post in the near future.
Job plans are not currently fixed and can be made in conjunction with the successful candidate. There is flexibility to cater to the individuals own special interests. The oncall portion of the job would be in our out of hours CEPOD rota, however if there is a special interest in obstetric anaesthesia there may be an opportunity to join that rota.
The Anaesthetics Department is part of the Surgical & Critical Care Directorate, which provides services within a 12 theatre main operating suite inclusive of 2 maternity theatres.
UHW houses NHS Lanarkshire’s (NHSL) regional maternity unit and the anaesthetic department provides 24/7 resident cover providing all aspects of obstetric anaesthesia.
Our maternity unit has approx. 5000 deliveries per year. More details are provided in the accompanying job pack.
Our pre-operative assessment service is led by a dynamic team of interested Consultants and dedicated and skilled nursing staff. We are in the process of integrating a state of the art digital preassessment service into working practice.
UHW hosts NHSL trauma unit providing surgical and anaesthetic services for all adult and paediatric trauma patients requiring surgery within NHSL. Ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia is performed for the majority of our trauma patients. We are also a regional trauma centre, integrated within the Scottish Trauma Network.
The NHS Lanarkshire orthopaedic upper limb service is based in UHW.
We have well developed acute and chronic pain services. Our acute pain service team is consultant led and includes two specialist nurses. An acute pain round is performed daily, promoting safe pain management and functional recovery following surgery.
We have a 12 bedded Adult Critical Care Unit admitting both Level 2 and Level 3 patients. On site there is also a general surgical Level 1 area, a trauma level 1 area and a 12 bedded medical HDU.
University Hospital Wishaw is a District General Hospital allowing a varied practice and in addition to above hosts upper and lower general surgery, gynaecology, paediatric services with some paediatric surgery and trauma and orthopaedic services. We have a busy CEPOD service providing emergency anaesthesia provision for adults and children.
Situated in West Central Scotland, University Hospital Wishaw is readily accessed from a wide area. Geographically it sits between Glasgow and Edinburgh allowing ready access to and commuting from both.
