Locum Consultant General Paediatrician (N&S MCCAED) (CAMHS)

We are delighted to invite applications for a 3 PA Locum Consultant General Paediatrician to join the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED). MCCAED is situated within the CAMHS Clinical Academic Group of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, the most comprehensive mental health service for children and young people in the country. This is the sole Consultant Paediatrician Post within the service.

Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for a Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in child and adolescent eating disorders. The successful candidate will primarily support the work of the ARFID service within MCCAED and also provide paediatric consultation and advice across the wider eating disorder service. There are excellent opportunities for developing expertise, engaging in quality improvement activities, research, teaching, and training.

About us

The post is located on the Maudsley site, near Denmark Hill train station (zone 2). Soon, our clinic will move to a larger, purpose-built facility called the Pears Maudsley Centre, on the same site.

We offer flexible working arrangements, including early mornings, late evenings, or Saturdays, to promote work-life balance. The working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 6 pm.

Job responsibilities

The key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing general paediatric assessment, advice, and consultation for patients in the ARFID service with various comorbid conditions.
  2. Supporting the development of multidisciplinary treatment plans.
  3. Liaising with wider paediatric, health, and social care teams to ensure appropriate care.
  4. Advising colleagues on paediatric care of children and adolescents with ARFID.
  5. Providing paediatric consultation and advice to the wider eating disorder services, including Outpatient Eating Disorder Service, START, and Intensive Therapy service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT, with expected CCT achievement
  • Additional higher degrees or diplomas, e.g., MD
Training and Experience
  • Extensive experience in general paediatrics, with CCT or equivalent.
  • Specialist training in general paediatrics.
  • Level 3 safeguarding training.
  • Experience in mental health, paediatric nutrition, or endocrinology is desirable.
Administration
  • Experience in managing day-to-day paediatric services in a busy hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of current NHS structures and recent initiatives.
Management and Leadership
  • Leadership skills within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in service development and change management.
  • Management qualification or course is desirable.
Audit, Research, and Publications
  • Understanding of medical audit principles, with completed audit projects.
  • Experience in clinical research and relevant publications.
