Job summary

Pulse Healthcare Limited seeks an experienced Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join a central England Microbiology laboratory on a locum basis. You will perform routine and specialist bacteriology investigations, reporting results in line with departmental procedures and maintaining quality standards.

The role requires HCPC registration, prior Band 6 microbiology experience in the NHS/UK setting, strong bacteriology knowledge, and the ability to work independently within a busy diagnostic

Qualifications

  • HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist is essential.
  • Previous Band 6 Biomedical Scientist experience in a UK Microbiology lab.
  • Strong bacteriology knowledge and practical lab experience.
  • Ability to work independently in a busy diagnostic environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialist Microbiology investigations in Bacteriology.
  • Process, analyse, interpret and report microbiology samples per procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment ensuring quality standards.
  • Support day-to-day lab operations and efficient workflow management.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with UKAS/ISO 15189 and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care and service delivery.
  • Adhere to health and safety and laboratory governance policies.

Job Title: Biomedical Scientist – Microbiology (Bacteriology)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join a well-established laboratory in Central England on a locum basis. This role offers the chance to work within a busy Microbiology department, supporting the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services with a particular focus on Bacteriology.

What will your responsibilities be:
  • Perform a range of routine and specialist Microbiology investigations within a Bacteriology laboratory.
  • Process, analyse, interpret, and report microbiological samples in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment while ensuring quality standards are consistently met.
  • Participate in the day-to-day running of the laboratory and support efficient workflow management.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with UKAS, ISO 15189, and laboratory quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care and service delivery.
  • Adhere to all health and safety, infection prevention, and laboratory governance policies.
Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Previous experience working as a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in a UK Microbiology laboratory.
  • Strong Bacteriology knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
  • Ability to work independently within a busy diagnostic environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Experience using laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Experience working within an NHS laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and accreditation requirements.
