Job Title: Loan Closer – Secondary Loan Market

Location: London (Hybrid)

Team: Loan Capital Markets

Type: Contract (view to extend or go permanent)

Overview:

Opportunity to join a high-performing Loan Capital Markets team within a globally recognised investment bank. This role sits within the secondary loan closing function, supporting the execution of both buy and sell commitments on syndicated deals. You’ll be embedded in a front office environment, working closely with traders, legal teams, agent banks and external counterparties to ensure smooth trade execution and accurate settlement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support secondary loan trading activity across Loan Capital Markets, working with traders who execute commitments via Bloomberg, phone, or email

• Own the end-to-end loan closing process, ensuring legal documentation is executed correctly and on time

• Review and prepare standard LMA documents including:

• Liaise with agent banks and counterparties to agree settlement timelines and monitor trade closure

• Review credit approvals and ensure all conditions are fulfilled before final sign off (Credit Control support)

• Prepare and quality check loan transfer documentation, escalate discrepancies where needed

• Work with internal counsel and external legal contacts to resolve any blockers or document changes

• Input bookings accurately into LOAN IQ and ensure internal data aligns with operational procedures

• Provide support on the origination side of deals, helping structure commitments before the primary book closes

• Ensure proper record keeping for regulatory reporting and internal controls

Experience Required:

• Strong experience in loan closing or loan settlements – ideally from a Loan Capital Markets, agency, or trading environment

• Solid understanding of LMA documentation, especially in the secondary loan market

• Familiarity with trade flow, transfer mechanics, and working directly with agent banks

• Experience preparing and reviewing confirmation documents, transfer certs, and pricing letters

• Exposure to credit approvals, control processes, and coordinating with legal stakeholders

• High attention to detail and ownership over trade execution

• Confident liaising with Front Office, legal teams, and counterparties

• Ability to manage high-volume workloads and navigate complex deal timelines

Tools & Systems:

• Loan IQ (preferred but not essential)

• Internal booking models for structured and syndicated loans

What They’re Looking For:

• Someone with the pace, ownership, and attention to detail expected in a front office-adjacent role

• Proven experience in loan documentation and settlements (secondary market)

• A proactive mindset and strong work ethic — this is not a passive back office role

• Confident communicator who can push back on inaccuracies and maintain trade control

• Ideally someone who has worked in a market-leading team or with exposure to front office activity

• This role replaces a previous contractor who lacked urgency and attention to detail — the standard here is high

• Previous successful candidates include those with operational loan backgrounds who have moved closer to front office

• Benchmarks include Tony Cheng (converted to perm) and Joe Owens (FO-aligned approach)
