Job description

Join our new team in York – person‑centred care that makes a real difference Are you passionate about supporting people to live life on their own terms? Would you enjoy flexible, fulfilling work where you can build meaningful relationships and truly understand the person you support? If so, we’d love to welcome you to Active Assistance, part of the UK’s largest provider of complex care.

About the role

Active Assistance are expanding our client base and we’re excited to build a brand‑new team of dedicated female Support Workers to support a lovely client in her own home in Stockton on the Forest, York. Our client has sustained a spinal cord injury and requires full assistance with all care needs due to limited mobility. Your support will play a key role in helping her maintain her independence, dignity, and quality of life at home. This is a truly person‑centred role where building a genuine, trusting relationship is key. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, take the time to listen, and be proactive in meeting the client’s needs, providing thoughtful and attentive support. You’ll also be trained to deliver specialist care, including urostomy and stoma care, cough assist, and recognising Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD). Our client enjoys being around animals and has two dogs, a fish pond, and horses, so you’ll support her in doing the things she loves, including visiting her horses, as well as helping with meals and daily routines. The client’s son is currently at university but may occasionally return home, so flexibility and respect for family life are important. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference through consistent, compassionate support. In this role, you’ll support one individual with complex needs, working regular weekly shifts to build a consistent, trusted care team. While hours are usually stable, the position is offered on a zero-hours contract as care packages can change.

What you’ll be doing and required skills
  • Delivering person‑centred, one-to-one care
  • Supporting with all aspects of daily living and personal care
  • Providing specialist clinical support (full training provided)
  • Preparing meals and supporting household routines
  • Supporting the client to engage in outings, hobbies and activities
  • Building a strong, trusting relationship through consistent care
  • Full UK manual drivers licence - to drive the clients vehicle
  • Comfortable around animals
  • Due to the nature of the role and personal care requirements, this position is open to female applicants only.
When you’ll work
  • Rolling rota 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off
  • Living in the client’s home 24/7 when on shift
  • Enjoy regular consistent work with rolling rota while making a real difference in someone’s life.
Our registered manager’s expectations for the ideal candidate

As a Registered Manager, I am looking for Support Workers who are:

  • Kind - respectful, patient, and understanding, treating every individual with dignity and empathy.

I expect Support Workers to work positively as part of a team, communicate openly and professionally, and uphold our values, policies, and standards of care at all times. A willingness to learn, reflect, and develop your skills is essential, as is putting the needs, choices, and rights of the people we support at the heart of everything you do.
