North Yorkshire Centre for Independent Living is seeking Live-In Personal Support Assistants to support a young man with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in Leeds and nearby areas. The role involves assisting with daily living, transport, and promoting independence while respecting privacy.
The position requires a full UK driving licence, the ability to operate a large automatic wheelchair accessible vehicle, fluent English, and willingness to travel, including overnight stays and weekends away.
Company: North Yorkshire Centre for Independent Living
1 or 2 live-in Personal Support Assistants are required to assist a young man who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and uses a powered wheelchair. The support is whilst he is at Leeds Beckett University (Headingly Campus) in Leeds where he is in his first year studying BA Sports Business Management (term time) and at home in a village location near Middlesbrough (holidays and some weekends).
The PAs would encourage him to get out and do things as the young man is quite shy, so they need to be confident without drawing attention to him. He requires support with most aspects of daily living but is passionate about maintaining his independence. It is important that personal care is carried out discreetly and that his privacy is respected.
Powerchair Football is a huge part of his life and PA’s will be expected to support him at weekly training sessions, competitions, the National Emerging Talent Pathway and approximately 15 weekends away each year. He sometimes travels abroad with his sport and to go on holidays the PA would also travel with him. He does go home for the weekend and holidays, so the PA would also be required to support at his home.
The rate of pay is £12.71 per hour
There are 168 hours per week per PA (24/7) it will be on a week on, week off basis.
