Job summary

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is seeking an English Tutor and Reading Intervention Specialist to help pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 improve reading fluency and comprehension through targeted one-to-one and small-group sessions.

You'll work with the English department to identify learners' needs, plan engaging sessions, monitor progress and report outcomes, and contribute to a literacy strategy in a supportive Church of England school with strong community links.

Qualifications

• Strong academic background in English (A Level, degree or equivalent).
• Passion for literacy, reading and supporting young people.
• Ability to build positive relationships and motivate learners.
• Clear written and oral communication with diverse students.
• Organised, adaptable and collaborative team player.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality one-to-one and small group English tuition and literacy intervention programmes.
• Identify students needing additional support in reading, phonics and English with Heads of Department and pastoral teams.
• Plan engaging, structured sessions to meet diverse learning needs.
• Support students with reading ages below their chronological age to access the wider curriculum.
• Monitor, assess and report progress and impact of interventions.
• Encourage confidence, resilience and a love of reading and learning.
• Communicate with staff, students and parents where appropriate.
• Contribute to the English department and literacy strategy.
