Job description

Linux Platform Engineer (OpenShift) – London

£50,000-£58,000 base + on-call + share options | London | Hybrid (2 days per week onsite)

We are partnering with a high-growth SaaS business that is hiring a Linux Platform Engineer to join a growing platform team responsible for building and evolving modern Linux and container-based platform services.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move beyond traditional BAU administration and into platform engineering, automation, and cloud-native infrastructure. The team is creating self-service platform capabilities that enable engineering teams to deploy, manage, and operate workloads more effectively across a modern container platform environment.

The wider organisation already operates at significant scale, and this team forms part of a broader infrastructure transformation focused on Linux, OpenShift, Kubernetes, automation, and private cloud modernisation. The engineering function is also actively adopting AI-assisted delivery practices, with engineers increasingly leveraging modern tooling to improve productivity, accelerate delivery, and reduce repetitive manual work.

The business is looking for someone with strong Linux platform engineering experience, a passion for automation, and an interest in helping shape a growing platform capability that supports critical software services across the organisation.

Why this role is interesting

  • Work in a role focused on building, automating, and improving, not just maintaining
  • Gain exposure to Linux, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Helm, automation, and infrastructure modernisation
  • Join a small team where your contribution is visible and your work has direct organisational impact
  • Be part of an engineering environment actively adopting AI-assisted delivery practices
  • Help shape platform standards, self-service capabilities, and engineering best practices
  • Play a key role in the evolution of a modern container and platform ecosystem

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, building, and operating Linux platform services
  • Supporting self-service infrastructure and internal platform products
  • Working with technologies including OpenShift, Kubernetes, Helm, Linux, and automation tooling
  • Improving observability, resilience, reliability, and operational readiness
  • Contributing to infrastructure-as-code initiatives, scripting, and platform automation
  • Working closely with software engineering teams to improve workload deployment and operational efficiency
  • Working within an engineering team adopting AI-assisted workflows
  • Delivering independently within a sprint-based environment with real ownership and accountability

What they're looking for

  • Strong Linux systems or platform engineering experience
  • Good automation and scripting skills using technologies such as Bash, Python, PowerShell, or Ansible
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other enterprise container platforms
  • Strong infrastructure fundamentals and a production-focused mindset
  • Experience working with Git-based workflows, CI/CD principles, and production environments
  • Interest in modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted tooling and automation
  • A self-starter who can work autonomously and deliver within agile sprint cycles
