Job summary

Searchability NS&D in the United Kingdom is seeking a seasoned Linux Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable Linux-based infrastructure across on-premises, virtualised, and cloud environments.

You will automate provisioning with Ansible/Puppet/Chef, manage patching and backups, monitor performance, and contribute to security hardening and incident response while providing 2nd/3rd line support and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Linux infrastructure experience in large or complex environments.
• Strong Bash and Python scripting skills.
• Hands-on experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Cloud platform familiarity (AWS/Azure/GCP) and virtualization technologies.

Responsibilities

Who are we?

Our client is looking for an experienced Linux Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in maintaining secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure supporting business-critical applications and services. You’ll work across infrastructure management, automation, monitoring, security and troubleshooting within a complex technical environment.

What will the Linux Infrastructure Engineer be doing?

You’ll be responsible for designing, implementing and supporting Linux-based infrastructure across physical, virtual and cloud environments, while working closely with wider technical teams to support projects and improve infrastructure services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, implementing and supporting Linux infrastructure across RHEL, Ubuntu and CentOS
• Managing and optimising Linux servers across physical, virtual and cloud platforms
• Automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Ansible, Puppet or Terraform
• Monitoring system performance, capacity and availability
• Troubleshooting complex infrastructure and OS-level issues and conducting root cause analysis
• Managing patching, updates, backups and disaster recovery
• Implementing security best practices including system hardening, access control and vulnerability management
• Supporting deployments, migrations and new software releases
• Providing 2nd/3rd line infrastructure support
• Maintaining technical documentation and infrastructure standards

Key Skills and Requirements

• Strong experience with Linux system administration, particularly RHEL, Ubuntu or CentOS
• Proficiency with Bash and/or Python
• Hands-on experience with Ansible, Puppet or Chef
• Knowledge of AWS, Azure or GCP
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and firewalls
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Nagios, Prometheus or Splunk
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with VMware, KVM or Hyper-V
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform or CloudFormation
• Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices
• Exposure to LDAP, DNS or identity management
• Understanding of security frameworks and compliance standards
• Experience working in secure or regulated environments
