Your Role And Responsibilities

IBM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join our team on a significant public sector project. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of Linux systems, with a proven track record in managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex Linux environments. This role requires a professional who can effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrate a commitment to security and compliance requirements inherent to public sector projects.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

• Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance Linux infrastructures.
• Lead in-depth system analyses, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex technical issues.
• Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and other stakeholders to optimize system performance and enhance security.
• Develop and enforce best practice guidelines for Linux system administration and security.
• Oversee and guide junior engineers, providing mentorship and technical training as needed.
• Conduct regular system audits to ensure adherence to security standards and compliance regulations.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending improvements to the current infrastructure.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical system support and issue resolution outside normal business hours.
  
  

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent years of experience in the industry.
• Hands-on experience in a Linux system engineering role.
• Expertise in at least two of the following distributions: Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SUSE.
• Proven experience in automating tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
• In-depth understanding of network protocols, services, and standards including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, and SSH.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM) and containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Comprehensive understanding of storage solutions including NFS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud) is a plus.
• Possess relevant certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer), RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator), or Linux+ from CompTIA. Additional certifications in cloud platforms or security domains would be beneficial.
• Experience working in a public sector environment.
• Knowledge of IBM's public sector projects and related technologies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a customer-centric approach.
