Job summary

Stanford Black Limited is leading a global hedge fund through a Linux-first desktop transformation. You will join a small team building the foundations of a scalable, secure desktop experience for a highly technical user base.

The role centers on OS standardisation, image management, automation, and infrastructure integration, spanning physical hardware, virtualization and cloud-like environments to deliver a cohesive computing platform across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience working with Linux operating systems, ideally in an infrastructure or systems engineering capacity.
• A deep understanding of Linux administration, configuration, troubleshooting and system behaviour.
• Experience with Python, particularly for automation and systems tooling.
• Knowledge of OS deployment, image management, package management and configuration standardisation.
• Experience supporting Linux across physical and virtual environments.
• An understanding of endpoint security, software lifecycle management and system reliability.
• Someone who enjoys building rather than simply maintaining, with the initiative to influence technical decisions in a developing engineering environment.
• Experience with numerous Linux distros, transactional updates, application sandboxing &/or enterprise Linux desktop deployments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish the engineering foundations of the firm's future Linux-first desktop environment.
• Build a robust, consistent and scalable experience for a global population of highly technical users.
• Define how Linux is deployed, configured and experienced across a large enterprise environment.
• Explore approaches to OS standardisation, image management, software delivery and controlled system updates.
• Develop tooling and processes to manage a global Linux environment more efficiently and consistently.
• Establish approaches to maintaining secure, reliable and well-managed desktop systems.
• Work across physical hardware, virtualization and underlying infrastructure to deliver a cohesive computing environment.
• Evaluate emerging Linux technologies and challenge traditional approaches to enterprise desktop management.
