Job summary

Rolls-Royce in Annesley is seeking a Linear Friction Weld Manufacturing Engineer to support and develop the LFW process for high-value aerospace components.

You will own process capability, safety, quality, cost and delivery, working with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and know‑how transfer.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in manufacturing or mechanical fields.
  • Welding experience is essential.
  • Manufacturing engineering experience preferred.
  • Materials experience beneficial.
  • Good numeracy and literacy.
  • Able to work independently or in an Agile team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain process capability to meet design definitions and specifications.
  • Identify and resolve safety-related issues and drive zero-defect culture.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes and digital systems.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Linear Friction Weld Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Annesley. Linear Friction Welding is a critical, special process that is key to the delivery of high value components across Civil and Defence Aerospace. As the Linear Friction Weld Manufacturing Engineer, you will provide technical support to operations and execute Manufacturing Engineering activities to develop, maintain and continuously improve the Linear Friction Welding process and/or methods of manufacture, which are capable of meeting and continuing to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and leadtime (SQCD).

What you will be doing:
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are in full compliance to Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are capable of achieving and sustaining the design definition, and that processes are followed so that our products and those of our suppliers conform to their specification.
  • Rigorously raise, investigate and resolve safety related issues.
  • Drive a culture of zero defects within the organisation. Works with all functions to reduce risk and drive product Right First Time.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards including RRMS, SABRe and Export Control and Intellectual Property requirements.
  • Ensure application of manufacturing process controls within their area of accountability, with authorisation subject to appropriate delegation.
  • Act as MEA or PCA signatory, where applicable.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for new or improved manufacturing processes, digital systems and technologies to meet current or future requirements.
  • Plan and manage activities including schedule, resources and costs, gaining buy-off and communicating current status to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales.
  • Develop, implement, validate, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing processes, digital systems and/or methods of manufacture which are capable of meeting and continue to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time.
  • Capture, analyse and use data to demonstrate and improve the current and future capability of manufacturing processes.
  • Working with the Manufacturing Engineering Commodity Leaders and Manufacturing Process Owners, drive manufacturing processes towards identified consistent best practice.
  • Work with interfacing teams and local experts to ensure technical aspects of manufacturing processes and digital systems are understood and accounted for as required.
  • Responsible for self development to meet the required competencies for the role.
  • Continuously seek to expand knowledge and experience to increase effectiveness in undertaking existing and new activities.
  • Provide coaching and technical support to others within their area of competence.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Degree qualified within an Engineering discipline (manufacturing, materials, mechanical)
  • Preferred requirement: Previous welding experience is essential
  • Manufacturing Engineering experience
  • Materials experience beneficial
  • Good levels of numeracy and Literacy
  • Being able to maintain Safe working practices
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a Team Agile and responsive
