Job summary

Zero Surplus is seeking an Industrial Designer – Lighting to own the engineering of products from concept handover through to production-ready status. You will prototype, create 3D printed models, prepare drawings and specs for quotation and manufacture, and drive the NPI timeline to meet seasonal launches.

You will work with suppliers, quality and technical teams, coordinate testing and certifications, and ensure design-for-manufacture at the right cost within tight launch deadlines.

Qualifications

• 2+ years as product design or development engineer in a DFM environment.
• Proficient in SolidWorks.
• Experience designing for extrusion, die casting, injection moulding, or related processes.
• Understanding of product testing and why it matters.
• Creative engineering flair and keen interest in manufacturing.
• Reliable under deadlines and able to collaborate in a team.
• Useful: lighting experience and knowledge of relevant standards.
• Useful: BIM file creation or photometric data knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering of your products from concept handover to production-ready status.
• Create prototypes, 3D printed models, drawings and specs for quotation and manufacture.
• Conduct in-house testing and coordinate external lab certifications.
• Manage the NPI timeline and reviews to hit seasonal launch dates.
• Collaborate with suppliers, packaging, quality, and tech teams; occasional overseas visits.
• Focus on design for manufacture and cost-effective production.
