Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Lighting Engineer to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team. You will liaise with design teams, produce detailed lighting layouts, and support feasibility reports for projects across public and private sectors.

You will work in a hybrid environment with CPD sessions and advanced training, engaging with luminaire manufacturers, contractors and local authorities to drive designs from conception to construction.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Lighting Reality or Dialux lighting design software and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of external lighting standards, guidance, legislation and regulations.
• General awareness of electrical design and lighting maintenance operations.
• Experience in lighting design from conception through to issue for construction.
• Good understanding of central management systems.
• Ability to work independently and in a team with strong communication and organisation.
• Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
• Membership of a relevant professional organisation with Eng Tech registration.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Lighting & Energy Solutions team, design teams, stakeholders and clients.
• Produce detailed design layouts, drawings and support documentation per QA.
• Prepare feasibility reports, option studies and specifications.
• Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers.
• Coordinate with contractors including site support and RFIs.
• Perform non-intrusive site visits to support lighting assessments and clearance drawings.
• Support development of project proposals and monitor progress against milestones and budgets.
• Engage Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients and build relationships.
• Support Early Career Professionals and mentoring within the team.
• Represent WSP in the lighting industry and drive business development.
