Job summary

Schindler Limited in Birmingham is seeking a Lift Service Engineer to join our Midlands and South West area team, delivering planned preventative maintenance and essential fault finding on lift and escalator equipment.

You will work with advanced electrical and mechanical systems, demonstrate problem-solving skills, drive safety and quality, and maintain site documentation while providing reliable service for our customers.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 minimum in Lift/Escalator maintenance or equivalent.
  • Experience in Lift/Escalator servicing/maintenance/repairs preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing of lift/escalator equipment, including minor repairs and routine component replacements.
  • Rectify faults and verify correct functioning after breakdowns.
  • Check lift/escalator performance (speed, motor start/stop, weight, noise, temp, power) using company tools.
  • Conduct routine inspections and adjustments; reinstate equipment and complete service documentation.
  • Perform advanced fault finding and diagnostics; restore equipment to service.
  • Carry out site surveys.

Join us as a Service Technician

We are currently recruiting for a Lift Service Engineer to be based in the Midlands and South West area to carry out planned preventative maintenance regimes as determined by the contract terms on portfolio lift/escalator equipment. Works will also include minor repair work and the lifecycle replacement of components.

Your main responsibilities
  • Carry out routine servicing of lift/escalator equipment, including minor repair work and the routine replacement of components and in accordance with approved company procedures (PPE, PDA, Expert+ etc)
  • To rectify and reduce faults on lift/escalator equipment in cases of breakdown and check to confirm correct functioning
  • Checking the lift/escalator function as part of maintenance, checks to include, speed, motor start/stop, weight, noise, temperature and power supplies using approved company issued tooling and protective equipment
  • Conduct the routine inspection and adjustment of lift/escalator in accordance with approved procedures. Reinstate lift/escalator and complete service documentations
  • Carrying out more advanced fault finding and diagnostic procedures using a range of techniques, technical manuals and appropriate test equipment, restoring equipment to service
  • Conduct site surveys
What you bring
  • Experience in Lift/Escalator Servicing/ Maintenance/ Repairs preferred
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 minimum in Lift/Escalator maintenance or equivalent
  • Advanced Electrical and Mechanical knowledge, including Multi-Brand equipment
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Experience leading projects and teams
  • Full UK driving License
  • The ability to work under pressure, to deadlines and within efficiencies
  • The ability to work independently with a flexible approach
  • Good communication skills at different levels (Client/Service Leader/Inspectors)
  • Good Punctuality
  • Manual dexterity - Requires the use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate various hand and power tools and to record written information
  • Proven fault finding and diagnostic skills
  • Good administration skills
