Job description

Post Ref: CC434

Please note: Internal at risk or redeployee applicants will be seen in the first instance.

We are looking for a committed and forward-thinking individual to join the libraries management team. This is an exciting career progression opportunity for an individual with enthusiasm, a belief in the value of libraries, and a 'can do attitude'.

Are you passionate about the power of libraries to transform peoples' lives? If the answer is yes, then we are looking for someone very special to continue to develop our services at Calderdale Libraries.

Located in West Yorkshire, Calderdale offers an excellent quality of life, there is plenty to do, with a great choice of restaurants, bars, theatres, cinemas, museums, and art galleries to visit. Our beautiful countryside also means that the chance to walk, ride and cycle are right on your doorstep. The service has twelve, libraries including the award-winning Central Library & Archives Halifax and a home library service.

This is an excellent opportunity to build on what we have already achieved and bring your experience and passion to develop and shape our offer further. You will be a confident communicator and able to develop successful relationships with partners.

The successful candidate will support the Libraries Manager with implementation of strategic plans for the council's library services for the benefit of people who live, work, study or visit Calderdale and contribute to making full and efficient use of all resources to deliver a relevant and sustainable service in line with the Library Universal offers.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the delivery of library services for children and young people, information and local studies provision, digital services, stock management, marketing and promotion and the coordination of outreach activities. You will need to be able to inspire people to engage with library services and thereby increase active usage of libraries by people of all ages, through an innovative and creative approach.

You will hold a degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). Ideally will be an MCLIP or ACLIP and/or have demonstrable experience to fulfil the requirements of the post and have a Level 2 ICT Qualification or demonstrable equivalent level of computing competency.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
