Job description

Mottingham Library is looking for a Library Manager to work 26.5 hours per week, to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the facility. It is one of 14 libraries operated by GLL in Bromley and is situated in the heart of the community. It is a busy library, giving access to a wide variety of collections and resources including books, technology and a busy children’s section. Mottingham Library has recently undergone a major modernisation and refurbishment project and benefitted from funding to improve and expand both the space and equipment available in the library. The Mottingham Library Manager would be leading their team and community to embrace new library technology such as the Cubbie sensory space, 3D printers and hireable pod space. You would promote the library's services throughout the local community, whether it's our valued existing users or widening the offering to a new group of customers. Alongside delivering core library activities, staff encourage members of the community to bring their ideas to the space and work to support their projects or group activities. Examples include community-led reading groups, poetry events, projects that support groups to connect with schools with library support and a Crotchet and Natter group - all of which have a ‘ripple effect’ on engagement and the building of connections. In these instances, groups are in control of their sessions and staff see their role as ‘making space’ for things to happen.

  • Planning, promoting and delivering activities such as Baby Rhyme Time
  • Build and develop good relationships with local contacts and partnerships to both enhance the service and ensure the library is an integral part of the community. Excellent understanding of all library operations
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Understanding of stock management and development,
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • Building management within a public library
  • ICT knowledge
  • The ability to identify the needs of the community for the library
