Job summary

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are offering a Library Assistant Apprentice role based in the Twickenham cluster. The apprentice will work 36 hours per week over four weekdays and alternating Saturdays, with travel required to Westminster for the Level 3 qualification.

The role includes delivering reading events and assisting customers across 12 libraries. The program lasts 18 months as a fixed-term contract, with potential progression to a permanent role depending on vacancies.

Qualifications

• Clear communication with customers via in person, phone or email.
• Ability to handle challenging customer-facing situations calmly.
• Awareness of library resources and services within communities.
• Interest in information management and archives.

Responsibilities

• Shelve and tidy stock, promote collections and help customers choose books.
• Deliver reading events (Rhymetimes, author talks) and support events.
• Use IT systems to assist customers and colleagues.
• Be flexible to work across 12 libraries in the borough.
