DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor andthe Library Manager, the Part Time Library Aide provides direct public servicein both youth and adult areas of the library, helping people of all ages andbackgrounds, including children and seniors, feel welcome and supported in a fast paced, high-volume environment. Strong technology skills and anempathetic, hands-on approach are essential. Aides spend much of the dayhelping patrons with personal devices, printers, public computers, and othertech related needs. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys constantinteraction, problem solving on the fly, and making the library a welcoming andcommunity centered space.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

Sufficient physical ability toeffectively and safely perform the duties of the position in a busy,high-activity library setting. Requires regular pushing of heavy book carts anddollies weighing up to 100 pounds. Involves frequent bending, crouching,stooping, reaching, climbing ladders, and rotating wrists. Must be able to liftand carry books, boxes, equipment, supplies, tables, and chairs. Requires theuse of hands and wrists for repetitive tasks such as opening and closing DVDand CD cases. Must be able to read small print on book spines for shelving andretrieval. Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to communicate clearly inperson and over the phone in a sometimes noisy environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability toexercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in protecting patronprivacy. Proficiency with common technology and confidence assisting patronswith tech-related tasks. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
