Job summary

Harris Academy Beckenham is seeking a Librarian to maintain a professional, stimulating and tidy Learning Resources Centre and to foreground student achievements.

You will manage resources, advise staff and students, and contribute to reading initiatives and parent engagement sessions, with opportunities to lead INSET and develop information literacy across the academy.

Qualifications

  • English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent.
  • Degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of library systems.
  • Knowledge of Accelerated Reading, or similar reading scheme.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum, particularly for English.
  • Three years' experience of working in an inner city school or educational establishment.
  • Experience of managing a library service.
  • Experience of a range of reading schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Management, organisation and supervision of the Learning Resources Centre.
  • Maintaining a professional, stimulating and tidy learning environment.
  • Contributing to events and meetings with parents to encourage reading beyond curriculum time.
  • Providing advice to staff, students and the community regarding Learning Resources.
  • Timetabling LRC and related study centres.
  • Collaboration with English and media teams for book week and author visits.
  • Developing study and information skills and supporting after-hours use of resources.

About Us

Harris Academy Beckenham is a happy, energetic and inclusive 11-18 academy which is widely recognised as one of the most successful and highest performing schools in Bromley. We retained our 'Outstanding' judgement in May 2023 following our previous 'Outstanding' inspection in June 2017. We are one of 52 schools in the country to retain this judgment.

The academy is oversubscribed with 1,500 applicants applying each year for 180 places. The academy has a reputation of excellence, high standards of discipline and behaviour and a proven track record of academic success with outcomes significantly above national averages across all measures.

In 2019 we were designated as a 'World Class' school because of the amazing work we do to develop students' skills, character and competencies which rival and compete with those students from the very best schools internationally. Summary

We are currently looking to appoint a Librarian to join us at Harris Academy Beckenham, maintaining a professional, stimulating and tidy learning environment at all times and foregrounding student achievements.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Management, organisation and supervision of the Learning Resources Centre
  • Ensuring that all learning resources equipment is well maintained
  • Maintaining a professional, stimulating and tidy learning environment at all times, foregrounding student achievements
  • Contributing to presentation and consultation evenings and meeting with parents to encourage reading beyond curriculum time
  • Providing advice to staff, students and the community regarding use, provision, development of Learning Resources
  • Devising and offerig INSET activities in teaching and learning techniques in relation to learning resources and training in the use of Learning Resource materials
  • Timetabling LRC/enterprise centre/post 16 study centre and other resources
  • Liaising with the English and media team to publicise and organise an annual book week and frequent visits from writers
  • Encouraging the effective use of the Learning Resource Centre
  • Liaison with other information agencies
  • Development and implementation of study and information skills
  • Participating in community links, including opening out of academy hours (a flexible approach to working hours is required)
  • Disseminating information on resources and access to staff and students
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the use and development of the area
  • Organising and supervising after hours, lunch time and break time use of resources for students e.g. study support and homework clubs
